Our client is looking for a newly qualified gardener with a minimum of 1-2 years of hands-on experience, who will be dedicated in overseeing the care and long-term development of the gardens on a private estate near Ascot, Berkshire.
This is a permanent, full-time position offering the chance for a junior gardener to take real ownership of a landscape shaped by organic practices, biodiversity, and a commitment to sustainability.
Applicants must show they have a good knowledge of garden management, be very keen to work in an organic, free flowing garden (ideally you will have a RHS qualification), creative flair, and the confidence to work closely with the principals in shaping a garden that is both beautiful and ecologically resilient.
The Principals of this charming estate would encourage newly graduated individuals who feel confident to take on this role. The Principals are friendly and approachable and are willing to pay for further training requirements the suitable candidate may wish to pursue in their career on the estate.
Responsibilities of the Qualified Junior Gardener for a private estate in Ascot, Berkshire include:
- Take full responsibility for year-round garden management and development
- Maintain lawns, beds, borders, and hedges to a high standard
- Implement and support organic gardening and sustainable land management practices
- Propagation, pruning, weeding, mulching, and seasonal planting
- Maintain and operate garden machinery and tools (routine servicing supported)
- Introduce creative ideas to enhance the garden’s biodiversity and long-term vision
- Foster a self-sufficient ecosystem that attracts and supports local wildlife
- Work in collaboration with the Principals on design improvements
- Ensure the garden remains pet-safe and pet-friendly
- A strong enthusiasm for gardening and prior hands-on experience and longevity in roles
- Strong horticultural knowledge, ideally with formal training/RHS qualification
- Passionate about organic gardening practices and sustainability
- Physically fit, resilient, and happy working in all weather conditions
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently to a high standard
- A team player with a positive, can-do attitude and flexible approach
- Confident maintaining garden machinery
- Pet-friendly and respectful of the Principles lifestyle
- Full clean UK driving licence
- DBS check and excellent references required
