Join our team as an Environmental Operative
Make a visible difference in our neighbourhoods. As an Environmental Operative, you’ll help create clean, safe and welcoming environments for our customers by carrying out cleaning, clearance and basic grounds maintenance across our properties and communal areas. Your work plays a vital part in delivering high-quality housing and services across our communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean the interior and exterior of void properties and communal areas (e.g. sweeping, mopping, hoovering, cleaning appliances, windows, fixtures and fittings, jet washing graffiti, gutter cleaning).
- Carry out safe and compliant environmental cleaning, including handling biohazards and sharps.
- Clear and dispose of waste and debris from properties and neighbourhoods, including litter picking, emptying bins and responding to fly tipping requests.
- Issue TORTS notices for tenant non-compliance and remove items/waste if not cleared by the deadline.
- Undertake basic grounds maintenance tasks such as strimming, hedge cutting, lopping bushes/trees and washing down pathways.
- Support wider maintenance activities by assisting operatives with manual handling, basic tasks and materials deliveries.
- Act as a visible representative on estates, signposting customers and reporting repairs, tenancy breaches or other issues.
- Use equipment and tools safely and maintain a tidy working environment.
- Champion Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and report Health & Safety concerns promptly.
- Option to volunteer for an on-call rota to respond to urgent environmental cleaning needs.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Ability to carry out manual handling tasks, including lifting equipment, furniture and waste safely.
- Customer-focused approach with strong communication skills.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Basic understanding of safe working practices, including health and safety and COSHH requirements (training desirable).
- Ability to complete paperwork to maintain accurate records.
- Experience using cleaning equipment, gardening tools or machinery (desirable).
- A full clean driving licence (desirable).
- Digital confidence using devices or Microsoft 365 applications (desirable).
