Staffordshire FA is looking for a Grounds & Pitch Care Operative with sports turf or grounds maintenance experience to help improve football pitches across Staffordshire.
This role directly supports grassroots football by maintaining high-quality playing surfaces, reducing match cancellations, and supporting clubs and volunteers. It's an ideal opportunity for someone wanting to grow a career in sports turf, groundskeeping, or football facility management.
Key Responsibilities -
- Maintain natural grass and artificial (3G) football pitches.
- Carry out mowing, aeration, overseeding, fertilising and line marking.
- Operate tractors, ride-on mowers and specialist grounds maintenance machinery.
- Deliver pitch renovation and seasonal maintenance programmes.
- Support grassroots clubs with turf care advice and best practice.
- Work with likeminded volunteers and professionals from grassroots and professional football clubs to share good practice.
- Manage equipment safely and maintain high presentation standards.
- Travel to football sites across Staffordshire as required.
Skills & Experience We're Looking For -
Essential:
- Experience in sports turf, grounds maintenance, landscaping or pitch care.
- Ability to operate turf machinery (tractors, ride-on mowers or similar plant).
- Full clean UK driving licence.
- Comfortable working independently and travelling between sites.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Sports turf qualifications (NVQ/Lantra/City & Guilds).
- PA1/PA6 spraying certificates.
- Previous football, golf course or sports facility experience.
Working Environment -
- Backed by a passionate, committed team who support you every step of the way.
- Primarily outdoor work in all seasons.
- Some lone working required.
- Travel across Staffordshire.
- Flexible hours during peak football periods (including occasional evenings/weekends).
