The estate is recruiting for a Head of Landscape and Gardens with a strong vision for an outstanding garden of huge historical and horticultural interest, who can follow in the steps of the likes of Nesfield and Jim Russell.The extraordinary 1000 acres of designed landscape and gardens, which lie at the heart of its 9000-acre estate, are a prime example of the ‘English heroic’ style and are of significant global importance. In addition to 12 acres of walled gardens, two lakes, cascades, fountains and formal gardens. The estate also boasts Ray Wood, an exceptional woodland garden containing the finest rhododendron and azalea collection in the North of England, managed in collaboration with RBG Kew.The Head of Landscape and Gardens at Castle Howard is responsible for the strategic management, preservation, and enhancement of the historic grounds, walled garden, water features, and baroque landscape. This senior role combines horticultural expertise with leadership, project management, and a keen understanding of heritage conservation to ensure the grounds are maintained to the highest standards while engaging and inspiring visitors. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone to be part of this hugely exciting project and to really make their mark.The Landscape and Gardens team has a team of 10 and a developing number of very keen volunteers.
