Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing outdoor spaces, ensuring they are safe, attractive, and functional. This role offers an opportunity to work outdoors across various environments, applying practical skills in landscape maintenance and horticulture. The position is suitable for individuals with a passion for gardening, construction, and environmental upkeep, looking to contribute to the upkeep of public grounds in accordance with recognised quality standards, work instructions and health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, planting, and fertilising to ensure healthy growth and aesthetic appeal.
- Operate a variety of power tools such as hedge trimmers, lawnmowers, and blowers safely and efficiently.
- Use hand tools for planting, pruning, digging, and other gardening tasks.
- Maintain irrigation systems by inspecting, repairing, and installing components to ensure proper water distribution.
- Operate machinery such as excavators for larger landscaping projects or site preparation.
- Conduct general maintenance tasks including debris removal, soil aeration, and pest control measures.
- Assist with construction activities related to outdoor projects, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
- Monitor the health of plants and trees, applying horticultural principles to promote growth and prevent disease.
- Ensure all work areas are kept clean and organised following health and safety standards.
- To carry out inspections of all parish owned play areas, bus shelters and public art and undertake routine repairs, maintenance and cleaning as required.
Requirements
- Proven experience in landscape maintenance or gardening is preferred.
- Mechanical knowledge related to garden machinery and power tools is highly desirable.
- Ability to operate hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Experience with specialised equipment such as excavators or irrigation systems is advantageous.
- Knowledge of horticulture principles and plant care techniques.
- Physical fitness with the ability to perform manual labour outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in maintaining outdoor environments.
- A valid driver’s licence is mandatory for transporting equipment or moving between sites.
- A proactive attitude towards safety procedures and environmental conservation practices.
