Caretaker – Residential Development (Hove)
Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm
Salary: £31-34k depending on experience, + pension and holiday, own office.
We are seeking a reliable, practical, and approachable Caretaker to look after a well-maintained residential apartment development in Hove.
This is a role ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on, working regular hours, and taking pride in keeping a residential building safe, clean, and running smoothly.
Please note there is no accommodation with this position.
The Role
As Caretaker, you will be the main on-site presence during core weekday hours. You will be responsible for the daily upkeep of the building and grounds, carrying out regular inspections, ensuring health and safety standards are met, coordinating contractors, handling minor repairs, and acting as a friendly and professional point of contact for residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily and weekly health & safety and fire safety checks and keep accurate records
- Monitor security systems and respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies
- Greet residents and visitors and assist with day-to-day queries
- Welcome new residents and provide basic building information
- Liaise with cleaning, gardening, and maintenance contractors during site hours
- Carry out minor repairs and routine maintenance
- Support vulnerable residents with refuse collection
- Manage refuse and recycling areas and ensure they are kept clean and compliant
- Keep communal areas, gardens, paths, and entrances tidy and hazard-free
- Maintain logs, notice boards, and building communications
- Support inspections, servicing visits, and other site requirements within working hours
- Other tasks as required.
About You
- Practical, dependable, caring and observant
- Comfortable carrying out routine safety checks and minor maintenance
- Approachable and confident when dealing with residents and contractors
- Calm and sensible in emergency situations
- Able to keep records and follow procedures
Previous experience as a caretaker, site operative, facilities assistant, or similar role would be an advantage, but reliability, attention to detail, and pride in your work are essential.
