Position: Assistant Grounds Person - Sportsturf & Grounds Maintenance
Location: Berkshire
Salary: £33,000 - £38,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
(Evening and weekend work during peak periods as required)

Chappell Enterprises UK is recruiting on behalf of our client for an Assistant Grounds Person/Grounds Maintenance Operative to join an experienced grounds team.
About Our Client:
Our client maintains high-quality polo fields and landscaped grounds within a professionally managed, private environment. The site includes polo fields, paddocks, and landscaped spaces that require skilled grounds maintenance and turf management throughout the year.
Due to the nature of the environment, discretion and professionalism are essential at all times.
About the Role:
As an Assistant Grounds Person, you will support the day-to-day grounds maintenance and maintenance of the polo fields, reporting directly to the Head Grounds Person. Working hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work required during peak periods for irrigation, preparation, or seasonal demands. This is a full-time, outdoor role suited to someone with proven experience in sportsturf, agricultural spraying, and grounds maintenance machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
Sportsturf Maintenance -

Mowing, feeding, strimming, and weed control of polo fields

Preparing, repairing, and maintaining playing surfaces

Applying herbicides and treatments using ATV and tractor-mounted sprayers

Assisting with irrigation systems, monitoring, and operation
Grounds Maintenance -

General grounds maintenance of lawns, paddocks, and landscaped areas

Topping, harrowing, over-seeding, and vegetation management
-
Hedge cutting, pruning, and maintenance of verges, banks, and ditches

Litter picking and maintaining high presentation standards
Machinery & Equipment -
- Operating and maintaining grounds maintenance machinery and vehicles

Daily machinery checks and routine maintenance (cleaning, greasing, adjustments)

Reporting faults, defects, and safety concerns
Health & Safety -
-
Safe use of machinery, tools, and spraying equipment

Compliance with health & safety and chemical handling regulations

Correct use of PPE at all times
Requirements:
Essential -

Previous experience in grounds maintenance or sportsturf maintenance

Experience operating grounds maintenance machinery

Physically fit and able to work outdoors year-round

Reliable, professional, and discreet
Desirable: -
- Experience with irrigation systems
- Strong understanding of sportsturf management

Spraying qualifications with practical experience using ATV or tractor-mounted sprayers

Agricultural or sportsturf background

Relevant grounds maintenance or sportsturf qualifications
