Job Title: Grounds and Maintenance Operative
Reporting to: Facilities Manager
Hours: 24 hours per week, worked Monday, Wednesday and Friday (8 hours per day)
Location: Huntsmill Farm, Buckingham
Salary: £17,000 per annum (actual salary, based on 24 hours per week)
Full-time equivalent £26,500, depending on experience

The Role
We are looking for an experienced Grounds and Maintenance Operative to join our growing Facilities team. This is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining the venue, buildings and grounds to an exceptionally high standard at all times.
The role plays a key part in creating excellent first impressions, particularly on wedding and event days and during client viewings. You will take real ownership of the look and feel of the site, working closely with the Facilities Manager, cleaning team and external contractors where required.
Your days will be varied, combining routine maintenance with one-off projects. You will take pride in your work, show strong attention to detail and enjoy being responsible for keeping the venue looking its best.
Key Responsibilities
Grounds Maintenance
- Take ownership of the appearance of all external spaces and guest accommodation
- Maintain high presentation standards for wedding days and client show rounds
- Carry out routine grounds maintenance including lawn care, hedge trimming, pruning, planting and weeding
- Clear communal outdoor areas between events, ensuring rubbish is removed and outdoor furniture is correctly positioned
- Repair fences and outdoor furniture as required
- Paint or stain exterior woodwork and outdoor building areas
Facilities Maintenance
- Carry out general on-site maintenance tasks under the direction of the Facilities Manager, including:
- Light bulb replacement
- Furniture repair
- Minor tiling repairs, mould removal and repainting
- Minor carpentry
- Painting and decorating
- Small plaster repairs
- Complete occasional projects to improve indoor and outdoor fixtures
- Maintain a log of maintenance tasks, priorities and completion dates
General Responsibilities
- Organise and maintain the workshop area, ensuring tools and machinery are stored and used safely
- Manage storage of consumables, equipment and event furniture
- Liaise with external contractors such as gardeners when required
- Work collaboratively with the facilities and cleaning team to meet venue standards
Health and Safety
- Work safely at all times in line with Health and Safety legislation, COSHH requirements and company procedures
- Report hazards, damage or significant maintenance issues promptly
About You
Essential
- Proven experience in grounds maintenance, general maintenance or carpentry
- Confidence using grounds and maintenance equipment safely
- Good working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and COSHH
- Experience undertaking a wide range of DIY and repair tasks
- A reasonable level of physical fitness for a hands-on, active role
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Reliable, well organised and flexible, particularly during peak wedding season
Desirable
- Experience working in a hospitality or events environment
- A relevant maintenance, grounds or carpentry qualification
- Basic plumbing or electrical experience
- Formal Health and Safety training
