As a Groundskeeper, you will be responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the grounds of Samaritan Healthcare surrounding the hospital, parking lots, and other designated buildings. This includes mowing, fertilizing, watering, sprinkler system maintenance, pruning, weeding, snow removal, and installing ground cover as needed to maintain an attractive and well-kept landscape. This role includes the safe use of a variety of tools, and equipment, working year-round and in all weather conditions.
This is a Full-time, benefits eligible day shift position working 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education
- High school diploma or GED.
License
- Possession of a valid driver’s license required.
Experience
- Two (2) years groundskeeping experience preferred.
Skills/Competencies
- Knowledge of various functions of grounds maintenance including lawn care, pruning, planting, irrigation, and sprinkler control/systems.
- Familiar with use of tractors, mowers, trimmers, edgers, leaf vacs & blowers, snow removal equipment and a variety of electrical hand power tools including drill motors and grinders.
- Demonstrated computer experience (work order software).
- Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (HCP) level to be completed within 3 months of hire.
- Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department specific checklist.
- Critical thinking skills: Seeks resources for direction, when necessary. Performs independent problem solving. Decision-making is logical and deliberate.
- Performs actions that demonstrate accountability. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.
- Demonstrates competency in ability to care for customers/patients across the age continuum.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Properly maintains the lawn areas of the grounds by, trimming, collection and removal of debris. Trims along curbs, sidewalk, and planting areas.
- Maintains shrubs, trees, and plants by performing basic pruning needs.
- Maintains weed control of lawns and shrub beds by pulling or coordination with weed and pest control contracts.
- Blows out around buildings and planter beds so that lot care equipment can remove or be picked up and disposed as not to have a buildup of dead leaves and debris.
- Ensures clean and safe grounds environment through daily rounds and monitoring of debris in and around the lawn, shrub beds, parking areas and perimeter of buildings.
- Services the automatic sprinkler and drip system by repairing and adjusting the system for proper coverage of lawn and plant areas.
- Replaces, repairs or upgrades ground cover and trees as needed. This may include lawn, shrubs, planter beds and adding or replacing bark, gravel or rock in areas.
- Perform pre start-up inspection of power equipment and minor repairs of grounds equipment and tools. Maintains grounds equipment by performing routine maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Consistently follows all safety procedures/policies in completing work assignments.
- Keeps tools in a clean, safe, and functional condition.
- Enters, updates and completes work order requests in maintenance computer system.
- Maintains work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
- Maintains Trash receptacles in designated areas. Empty as needed.
- Snow and ice removal of parking areas, sidewalks, and entryways. (Based on weather: Available before and after normal working hours including weekends for snow and ice removal.)
- Interact with Samaritan professionals and patients/visitors in a courteous and welcoming manner.
