Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, and in accordance with the established policies andprocedures and operational standards of the Corporation of Hamilton, the Parks Manager is accountable for managing and development and maintenance of the parks, public spaces and streets in the City of Hamilton. To enhance the physical beauty and greenery of the parks, streets and roundabouts for the enjoyment of residents, businesses and the public. The Parks Manager also recommends budgetary items for the Parks Department by purchasing goods and materials up to the approved spending limit and undertakes delegated human resources administrative duties. Additionally, the postholder performs additional duties that contribute to the effective and successful operation of the Parks Department.Qualifications:· Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture· Accredited certification in Supervisory Management.· A minimum of five (5) years’ post-qualification experience is required for the post· A minimum of three (3) years of proven experience supervising staff, particularly in a unionized environment.· Advanced knowledge of parks design and maintenance.· Experience managing budgets and expenses.· Demonstrated competency in communications, interpersonal, decision making, supervisory, leadership and motivational skills.· Demonstrated experience in effective communication with colleagues, management and members of the public in a courteous and polite manner.
