• Team Leaders – £32,000 per annum
• Grounds Maintenance Operatives – £28,000 per annum
Working Hours:
• March to October: Monday to Friday, 07:00–16:00
• November to February: Monday to Thursday, 07:00–16:00

Chappell Enterprises UK is recruiting Grounds Maintenance Team Leaders and Operatives on behalf of our client, an established provider of commercial grounds maintenance services. These positions involve maintaining a varied portfolio of commercial properties, housing association sites and schools. There is no domestic gardening work involved.
About Our Client:
Our client is a well-established grounds maintenance business with a strong reputation for delivering reliable, high-quality services across Devon. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint experienced professionals at both Team Leader and Operative level.
About the Roles:
Grounds Maintenance Team Leaders will be responsible for leading a small team and completing a scheduled programme of maintenance work to the required specification. You will work alongside your team, manage day-to-day activity on-site and ensure consistently high standards of workmanship and customer service.
Grounds Maintenance Operatives will work as part of an experienced team, completing a range of practical grounds maintenance and horticultural duties across commercial, housing association and educational sites.
Key Responsibilities:
• Completing scheduled grounds maintenance rounds efficiently and to specification.
• Grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, pruning and general horticultural maintenance.
• Maintaining commercial properties, housing association developments and school grounds.
• Operating and maintaining commercial grounds maintenance machinery and equipment.
• Ensuring vehicles are loaded with the correct equipment, materials and sundries for each working day.
• Maintaining professional standards when working on clients' premises.
• Following safe working practices and company procedures.
• Reporting equipment defects, site issues and additional work requirements.
Additional Team Leader Responsibilities:
• Leading, supporting and developing Grounds Maintenance Operatives.
• Allocating daily duties and ensuring the scheduled round is completed.
• Managing customer expectations and communicating professionally with site representatives.
• Monitoring workmanship, productivity and health and safety standards.
• Ensuring machinery, equipment and vehicles are used correctly and maintained appropriately.
Requirements:
Essential:
• Previous professional grounds maintenance or horticultural experience.
• Experience using commercial grounds maintenance machinery and equipment.
• A practical, hands-on approach and the physical fitness required for outdoor work.
• Reliability, good timekeeping and a strong work ethic.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a professional manner.
• A full UK Driving Licence is strongly preferred.
Team Leader applicants must also have:
• Previous experience leading or supervising a grounds maintenance team.
• The ability to organise workloads and manage a scheduled programme of work.
• Confidence communicating with customers and site representatives.
Desirable:
• PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates.
• Trailer towing experience.
• First Aid certification.
• Relevant horticultural or grounds maintenance qualifications.
Company Vehicle:
Team Leaders may currently be permitted to take their allocated company vehicle home, although this arrangement is subject to operational requirements and may be reviewed in the future.
