Rotherham Council is looking for a dedicated Street Cleansing / Grounds Maintenance Operative to join the team on a temporary full-time basis.
This is a hands-on role where you'll help maintain parks, green spaces, streets, and public areas across the borough, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors.
Day-to-day of the role:
As a Street Cleansing / Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will carry out a variety of environmental and landscaping duties, working as part of a team to deliver high-quality grounds maintenance and street cleansing services.
The role is physically demanding and involves outdoor working in all weather conditions, making it ideal for individuals who enjoy practical work and an active working environment.
- Grass cutting and lawn maintenance
- Hedge cutting and trimming
- Shrub pruning and vegetation management
- Litter picking and street cleansing activities
- Maintaining parks, open spaces, and landscaped areas
- Supporting general grounds maintenance operations
- Assisting with environmental improvement projects
- Using grounds maintenance equipment and tools safely
- Ensuring work is completed to a high standard and in line with Health & Safety requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, street cleansing, or similar outdoor work
- Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual handling duties, including lifting and moving heavy items
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable, hardworking, and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Good awareness of Health & Safety procedures
- Standard DBS certificate (valid and current)
- Positive attitude and commitment to delivering a quality service
