About Our Client:
Our client is a leading independent school in North London, renowned for its extensive sports facilities and beautifully maintained grounds. The school prides itself on providing an exceptional environment for both students and staff, ensuring that all outdoor spaces are kept to the highest standards.
About the Role:
Working alongside the Head Grounds Manager, you will help maintain the school's extensive sports pitches, landscaped grounds, and outdoor facilities throughout the year. The facilities cater to a variety of sports including football, rugby, hockey, cricket, athletics, and tennis, featuring both natural turf and artificial surfaces.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Preparing and maintaining sports pitches to a high standard
• Mowing using pedestrian and ride-on machinery
• Pitch marking and preparation for fixtures and events
• Aeration, scarification, overseeding, topdressing, and seasonal renovations
• Irrigation operation and watering
• Fertiliser and plant protection applications where appropriately qualified
• Hedge cutting, pruning, leaf collection, and general landscape maintenance
• Weed control and general grounds maintenance
• Operating tractors, utility vehicles, trailers, and grounds maintenance machinery
• Moving goals, sports equipment, benches, and pitch furniture
• Monitoring playing surfaces and identifying safety or playability issues
• Carrying out routine machinery checks and reporting faults
• Supporting winter maintenance, including frost protection, snow clearance, and gritting
• Assisting with general Estates duties when required
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
• A full UK Driving Licence
• Experience operating grounds maintenance machinery
• A good understanding of sports pitch and landscape maintenance
• High standards of workmanship and attention to detail
• The ability to work outdoors throughout the year
• Good communication and organisational skills
• A flexible and team-focused approach
Desirable:
• Experience maintaining natural grass sports pitches
• Qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 Sports Turf Management, Horticulture or Grounds Maintenance, PA1/PA6, First Aid, tractor experience, and irrigation knowledge
