We are seeking a versatile, reliable, and multi-skilled Estate Maintenance Worker to join our team on a beautiful private estate. This is a highly varied role that combines grounds maintenance, machinery operation, basic engineering, and occasional agricultural support.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter who enjoys working outdoors, possesses strong practical skills, and is comfortable working both independently and alongside existing estate staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Machinery Operation & Maintenance: Safely operate tractors and telehandlers. Hitch, configure, and operate various implements (e.g., toppers, mowers, and trailers).
- Chemical Application: Undertake safe chemical spraying duties for weed control and land management across the estate.
- Workshop & Basic Engineering: Perform routine daily checks, basic servicing, and minor maintenance/repairs on estate vehicles and machinery. Perform repairs on equipment using hand tools and power tools; carry out routine maintenance to prevent breakdowns.
- Land & Estate Maintenance: Undertake general groundskeeping duties including strimming, mowing, and estate upkeep. Conduct regular maintenance of gardens, lawns, and landscaped areas, including pruning, planting, and fertilising.
- Forestry & Clearing: Utilise chainsaws safely for tree care, clearing fallen timber, and managing woodland areas.
- Property & DIY Maintenance: Carry out general building maintenance and DIY tasks around the estate properties and outbuildings, proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. Basic plumbing skills.
- Agricultural Support: Assist the Head Shepherd on occasion with sheep farming duties, handling livestock, and seasonal farm work.
- General Estate Duties: Flexible support with day-to-day estate operations as required.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience working on a private estate, commercial farm, or similar rural environment.
- Machinery Skills: Confident and competent in driving tractors and telehandlers (relevant certifications/tickets are highly desirable). Mechanical knowledge for equipment repair and maintenance.
- Certifications: Valid Chainsaw Licence (e.g., NPTC/LANTRA) is required.
- Spraying Qualifications: PA1 & PA2 / PA6 Spraying Certificates are highly desirable and a major advantage for this role. Familiarity with horticulture principles for plant care and landscape management.
- Technical Skills: Good mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic vehicle/machinery servicing.
- Farming Background: Previous experience with livestock (specifically sheep) is a strong advantage. Experience in animal care including feeding routines and health checks.
- Attributes: Practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving and possesses a strong work ethic.
- Driving Licence: Full, clean UK driving licence is essential.
Pay: £24,420.00-£40,000.00 per year
