Are you experienced in vegetation clearance and confident using specialist grounds maintenance machinery? Our client, an established grounds maintenance contractor operating across Milton Keynes and the surrounding area, is looking for a Vegetation Operative to join its Transformation Spaces Team.
This is not a routine grass-cutting round. The team focuses on transforming and reclaiming overgrown, neglected and difficult-to-access areas, carrying out heavier vegetation clearance and improvement works using a wide range of machinery and equipment.
It would particularly suit someone from a grounds maintenance, landscaping, forestry, arboriculture, agricultural or vegetation management background who enjoys practical outdoor work and operating machinery.
The Role Working as part of the Transformation Spaces Team, you will help clear and improve sites that require more intensive vegetation management.
Projects can involve anything from cutting back heavily overgrown areas through to clearing scrub, vegetation and unwanted growth before sites are returned to a manageable condition.
You will work with a mixture of handheld equipment and larger specialist machinery depending on your experience and qualifications.
What You'll Be Doing Typical duties may include:
- Vegetation, scrub and overgrowth clearance
- Clearing and reclaiming neglected or heavily overgrown sites
- Operating remote-controlled / robotic mowers
- Operating flail mowers
- Using brush cutters and strimmers
- Operating small diggers / excavators
- Herbicide application and spraying
- Chainsaw and cutting work where suitably trained
- Cutting back hedges, brambles, scrub and woody vegetation
- Removing vegetation and green waste from site
- Supporting general grounds improvement and transformation projects
- Carrying out daily machinery checks and basic equipment maintenance
- Working safely around members of the public, colleagues and other contractors
What We're Looking For You must:
- Hold a full UK Driving Licence
- Have previous experience within vegetation clearance, grounds maintenance, landscaping, forestry, agriculture or a similar outdoor environment
- Be comfortable carrying out physically demanding outdoor work
- Have experience using a range of grounds maintenance or vegetation clearance machinery
- Be reliable, practical and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Have a good understanding of safe working practices when operating machinery
Particularly Useful Experience Experience with any of the following would be highly advantageous:
- Remote-controlled / robotic mowers
- Flail mowers
- Small diggers / excavators
- Brush cutters
- Chainsaws
- Herbicide spraying
- Heavy vegetation and scrub clearance
- Tractor-mounted or ride-on machinery
- Grounds maintenance machinery
Relevant qualifications such as PA1/PA6 spraying certificates, chainsaw tickets, brush cutter certification or plant/machinery tickets would also be beneficial, although candidates with strong practical experience are encouraged to apply.
